Eastern Redcedar (Juniperus virginiana)
Actually a type of Juniper, this medium growing species makes an excellent windbreak while its aromatic heartwood is prized for making cedar chests, closet wood lining, cedar shavings, small carvings, pencils, and non-rotting fence posts. Reaching a mature height of 30 ft. and spread of 15 ft., it tolerates just about any type of soil and does well in full sun to partial sun conditions. Eastern Redcedar should not be planted near apple trees due to cedar-apple rust. Click here for more info from ODNR
